Thomas Tessneer: Co-Owner & Chef
Fifteen years ago, Thomas Tessneer started participating on the KCBS circuit (Kansas City Barbecue Society). Under the team name of Mountain Magic Country BBQ, Thomas and his family have traveled the United States and competed in some of the biggest BBQ competitions in the world. They can boast winning Grand Champions, Reserve Grand Champions, 1st place Chicken, Ribs, Pork BBQ, and Brisket. In 2007, Mountain Magic was invited to the World Invitational Jack Daniels to compete with teams that were truly from around the world in other countries. They left leaving the competition with their heads held high claiming 32nd out of 108 teams including international. They were the only team there representing North Carolina. Thomas also has worked at Gardner-Webb University under the supervision of the Executive Chef as the head cook for the kitchen staff feeding all students, faculty, staff, and all events that GWU was linked to. November 17, 2009, he became a Co-Owner of Smoke on the Square along with his father.
